3 Monroe Businesses Found Noncompliant for Sale of Tobacco to Minors Under Eighteen
Three Monroe establishments were caught for selling tobacco products to minors. BREAKING
MONROE, CT — On Sept. 28, 2016, the Monroe Police Department said that members of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program (TPEP), conducted unannounced compliance inspections of establishments that sell tobacco products. The inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of cigarettes and/or tobacco products to youth under the age of eighteen.
A total of fifteen unannounced compliance inspections were conducted and of this total, three Monroe establishments were found to be in violation of Connecticut General Statutes, Sec 53-344(b), Sale of Tobacco to Minors under Eighteen. The offending clerks at the following establishments were issued an infraction in the amount of $200, police said:
- Brand Cigars, 230 Roosevelt Drive, Monroe
- Monroe Turnpike Service Center/Sunoco, 396 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe
- Food Mart / Shell, 133 Main Street, Monroe
The Cigarette Dealer license holder at each establishment also faces additional administrative sanctions from the Department of Revenue Services, the state agency that issues Cigarette Dealer Licenses.
