A Trendy Trunk Sale at the Collaborative Women's Center

Nicole LaBella held up a small pair of blue jeans while shopping for her three kids at the Trendy Trunk sale at the Collaborative Women's Center Saturday. Families looking for deals on children's spring and summer clothing checked out the racks and folded clothes on display at the center, located on the second floor of Gaslight Square, 500 Monroe Turnpike, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"I think it's a great idea," said LaBella, who learned about the sale on Facebook.

Megan Clark organized the Trendy Trunk sale, which allowed Monroe moms to sell their children's clothes at the center and keep the profits in exchange for a $15 donation to the Collaborative Women's Center. Shoppers paid a $5 fee to shop there.

The mothers tagged and priced their own clothing, but center owner, Tracy Mate, said for a $30 fee, the center tagged, priced and sold items for some people.

Mate started the Collaborative Women's Center to serve women in business.

Clark said, "Tracy and I had become friends through Monroe Newcomers & Neighbors and our two kids go to Little Ivy Preschool at St. Peter's Episcopal Church together."

Clark said she came up with the idea of the children's clothing sale from talking to other mothers who had clothes they didn't need anymore and as a way to help the Collaborative Women's Center.

"About 20 to 25 families brought clothes here because we're not taking a dime for the sales," Clark said. "We had about 30 people come through the door and they said, 'Thank you.'"
