The Human Resources Department is asking for an $80,000 increase for employee pensions for fiscal year 2013-14, and the Town Council had unanimously decided to cut the request in half. However, at least one Board of Finance member suggested putting it back in. At a Board of Finance Budget Workshop on Monday night, Vice Chairman Michael Manjos noted how Human Resources Dir. Catherine Lombardi based her request on a pension manager's recommendation. "I want to put the $40,000 back in, because I see no reason to have taken it out other than having a lower number," Manjos said. The pension account requested in the First Selectman's Budget was $381,349 before the $40,000 cut by the Town Council. The Town Council had decided to reduce the rate of increase for the account because members said it did not need to be as high as requested.
