BREAKING: Flash Flood Watch Issued for Monroe

BREAKING: The National Weather Service has just issued a new advisory for the state and increased rainfall projections significantly.

MONROE, CT — Well this should hopefully put a decent size dent in the drought Connecticut has been experiencing this summer. The National Weather Service has issued a “Flash Flood Watch” beginning tonight and continuing until Friday afternoon for Southern Connecticut. The state, which is badly in need of rain, is expected to receive between 2-4 inches of rain before it stops Friday evening. Thunderstorms are also possible too, the weather service states. While the rain is needed, flooding is a major concern, the National Weather Service states in an updated advisory issued Thursday. Here is a detailed look at the “Flash Flood Watch” for Southern CT.

Showers and thunderstorms will be moving into the region from the west early this evening and will overspread the region by late tonight. Showers and thunderstorms will continue into Friday morning and begin to taper off from west to east during Friday afternoon. There is the potential for periods of heavy rainfall this evening into Friday afternoon. Rainfall totals of 2-4 inches are possible and the main threat is flash flooding of low lying, poor drainage, and urbanized areas.
