Capstone Project Needs Community Judges

The Capstone Project is a culmination of the Monroe K-12 educational experience, and at the same time, creates a bridge between the classroom and the real world.

Dear Community Member:

We would like to invite you to play an integral role in our Capstone Project initiative at Masuk High School.

While allowing our students to choose their own pathway to fulfilling this important graduation requirement, the Capstone Project is a culmination of the Monroe K-12 educational experience, and at the same time, creates a bridge between the classroom and the real world.

The Capstone Presentations are the culminating phase of the project where students share their learning and are judged by trained panels comprised of both faculty and community members. Every student must successfully “pass” his or her presentation in order to be eligible to receive a diploma.

Our students will deliver their Capstone Presentations on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the high school. After a complimentary lunch, each judge will sit on a panel with other judges and listen to and assess 4-5 student presentations.

Presentations will consist of an 8-12 minute speech followed by a brief question and answer period. We are inviting you to be a community judge and take part in this first annual event.

To be a community judge, it is necessary for you to attend one of two available training sessions.  The first will be on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Masuk Auditorium.

The second training will take place on the morning of the Capstone Presentations at 10 a.m. and also be held in the high school auditorium.

At each session, you will be trained to use the Capstone Project Oral Presentation Rubric, the assessment tool used to evaluate each Capstone Presentation.

After the training on Thursday, May 30th, the judges will be moved to the cafeteria, pick up a lunch, and go to an assigned room. The assigned room is where judges will eat lunch and prepare for the student presentations.

If you are not going to be at the morning training on May 30th, we ask that you please arrive at the high school by 11 a.m. to pick up your lunch and receive your room assignment.

If you would like to serve as a Capstone Panel Judge on May 30th please call us at 452-5823, Extension 7809 or email us at capstone@monroeps.org no later than Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

Sincerely yours,

Joseph Kobza, Principal,

Ken Rider, Co-coordinator,

Carl Bodnar, Co-coordinator
