Fifth-Grade Band Returning to Monroe Schools: Report

The program had been cut due to budget constraints.

MONROE, CT — Fifth grade music enthusiasts will have an outlet to feed their passions this year, as funding has been carved out for the program once cut from the schools budget. According to a report from the Monroe Courier, Interim Superintendent John Battista has found funds for the fifth grade music program.

Battista said the sudden retirement of a few staff members helped the district save funding for the program. In June, the Board of Education was forced to cut the band and orchestra programs from the dwindling school budget.

Battista added the program would be different from years past, and depending on the nature of the state budget cuts, the music funding could be revisited.
