Five Fires in Nine Days in Monroe
Firefighters have been hard at work over the past week fighting structure fires across town.
MONROE, CT — Firefighters have been hard at work over the past week. A stove fire Sunday morning was the fifth structure fire in town in the past nine days, according to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters reported to the stove fire Sunday morning to find the homeowner extinguished the fire prior to arrival. The homeowner suffered a minor burn.
According to multiple reports including the Connecticut Post and Monroe Courier, firefighters reported to seven calls alone last Friday. A fire destroyed the contents of a shed on Monroe Turnpike, including two lawn tractors on June 30.

Firefighters also say the basement of a home on Mustang Drive was severely damaged due to a structure fire causing roughly $100,000 in damage. Two homes were also struck by lightning, sparking firefighter responses.
On the final night of the annual fireman's carnival Saturday night , firefighters responded to a electrical fire which they chalked up to a short-circuited oven and isolated the power.
