BERLIN, Conn. – He was just 3 years old when he first picked up a golf club and he’s been playing ever since. Now six years later, North Chery knows golf is challenging and takes a lot of work but that’s what he loves about it. This week the Stepney Elementary school student was able to swing the clubs with some of golf’s elite players at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell. The 9-year-old was one of 40 young golfers selected to participate in the Eversource PGA TOUR Player Experience for Junior Golfers at the TPC River Highlands.

“It was really awesome to play with the pros at the Travelers,” said North. “I learned so much from them and I know I’ll play even better now.”

North was chosen for the Player Experience based on his personal essay detailing his golf experience and how he could benefit from the opportunity to participate. In addition to playing with some of the pros, North and the other chosen participants attended private golf clinics, a Q-and-A session with the elite players and a dinner reception.

“This is an excellent opportunity for these young golfers; they are learning and developing lifelong skills through the game of golf from some of the pros,” said Eversource President of Corporate Citizenship Rod Powell. “We’re committed to supporting the health and well-being of the young people in our communities, which is why we are so proud to sponsor the Player Experience.”
