Monroe Distracted Drivers: Police Crackdown Starts Wednesday
Whether it's Pokemon GO, texting or talking on your cell phone, Monroe police are watching, and cracking down on distracted drivers.
MONROE, CT — During the month of August, the Monroe Police Department, along with police departments from across the state, are participating in the “U DRIVE. U TEXT. U PAY.” initiative in an effort to crackdown on motorists who choose to text, talk or otherwise distract themselves from driving by using a hand-held mobile phone.
The Monroe Police Department will have extra patrols on certain days specifically looking for cell phone and texting violations. Under Connecticut’s cell phone and texting law fines range from $150 for a first offense, $300 for a second offense and $500 for each subsequent offense.
The Monroe Police Department, through the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office, received funds to pay for this enforcement initiative.
