Monroe Police Share Important Program With Residents
Residents are encouraged to fill out the form, so it will ensure "the officers can learn about your special needs ahead of time."

MONROE, CT — The Monroe CT Police Department on social media shared details of a program called “Walk with Derek.”
In the social media post, police said that the program was "Created by the mother of an autistic child, the Autism Safety Alert Form contains detailed information regarding an individual with special needs. This form typically includes a photo, contact information, medications, diagnoses (including allergies), behaviors, sensory issues, and calming mechanisms. That way, if the police are ever called to your house, your location will be flagged in our local system, and the officers can learn about your special needs ahead of time. Likewise, if your child wanders or elopes, police and first responders can more quickly determine the best course of action to help your child through the stressful experience. Remember all your Monroe Police Officers are Crises Intervention Certified this form will allow our officers to tailor their response to better serve you.
