Patient of Monroe EMT is Suing Town for $15K After Alleged Assault in Ambulance

The alleged victim of a Monroe EMT accused of assaulting a patient while he was strapped to a gurney is now suing Monroe EMT and the Town.

MONROE, CT — A Monroe EMT accused of assaulting a patient while he was strapped to a gurney is scheduled to be in court on the charge on Aug. 26 while his alleged victim is suing the Town and Monroe EMT for injuries he claimed he suffered.

According to court documents, Robert Alix is claiming he suffered serious, painful, permanent physical injuries and psychological trauma as a result of the alleged assault by EMT Alejandro Ramirez, of Portland, on March 14, 2016. He is seeking more than $15,000 from the Town of Monroe and Monroe Emergency Medical Services.

On March 14, Alix, was being transported by ambulance from the Police Department to St. Vincent's Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation and during the trip, while Alix was shackled and handcuffed to a stretcher, he claims Ramirez struck him in the forehead with an iPad, was yelling at him and began choking him, according to the suit.

Monroe Police said a witness saw Ramirez grab the patient by the throat and push down on it before striking the patient in the head. Ramirez turned himself into police on April 18 after being notified of the warrant for his arrest. Ramirez was charged with third degree assault.
