Kyle Parshall, a Masuk High School senior, was among the members of his school's robotics team members using hand-held controllers to maneuver their robots inside the cafeteria Tuesday afternoon.
The Masuk Expo had students' talents on display and the robotics team, 4478A, is a prime example.
"We got to the quarterfinals in our division," Parshall said.
The company, VEX, issues a challenge every year, according to Parshall, who said last year's challenge was called "The Sack Attack."
Masuk's robots rolled up to beanbags, lifted them and dropped the cargo into a trough.
Every team uses the same parts available online to build their robots.
"Everyone is built the same way," Parshall explained. "It comes down to your design process."
Teams can ally with other teams, even ones from other countries, to enable them to go further in the tournament, Parshall said.
"It's all about how you sell yourself," he said.
