Soldiers serving abroad need everyday items ranging from anything to snacks and toiletries to a new pair of socks.
Miriam Zalenski of Monroe volunteers for Project From the Heart, a non-profit organization that prepares "We Care Boxes" of items and ships them to the men and women in our military.
But she says the organization has been struggling to raise funds to send more care packages.
"We're running out of money," Zalenski said Friday. "Our soldiers can use anything you use in your daily life. Things to remind them of home."
She said some bases don't have places to buy cans of tuna fish, peanut butter or even toilet paper.
