Someone Stole a Monroe Man's Tax Refund
Police said an identity thief filed taxes using a Sweetbrier Lane residents Social Security number before the victim's accountant did.

A Sweetbrier Road man's accountant filed his taxes for him on April 15, making the deadline ... but police say an identity thief beat him to the punch and got the refund.
Police said the victim's first clue that something was wrong was when he visited the IRS website "Where's My Refund?" on May 2 and couldn't find anything under his name.
He called his accountant, who assured him he had filed his taxes on time, according to the report. However, police said the Sweetbrier resident called his accountant again on May 6 and was told someone else had filed his tax return using his Social Security number.
