NAUGATUCK, CT — Pete Hess will serve another term as mayor of Naugatuck after receiving over 3,500 votes Tuesday, according to unofficial results.

The top race in Naugatuck was initially set to be the mayoral race between Hess, the Democratic incumbent, and Republican challenger Steven Kilmer, however the Republican Town Committee confirmed in an email Tuesday that Kilmer had withdrawn from the race.

According to the RTC, since Kilmer withdrew from the mayoral race too late for his name to be removed from the ballot, town officials physically etched out his name on every ballot so any votes cast for him would be disqualified.

Michelle Dowling, who was on the ballot as both a Democrat and Republican, ran unopposed for town clerk and received a total of 4,221 votes, according to unofficial results.
