NAUGATUCK, CT — Naugatuck police are launching a high-visibility anti-speeding enforcement campaign that runs from late July through early September.

In a Facebook post Monday, police said the department is launching the campaign this summer in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In an effort to promote safer roadways and reduce accidents caused by speeding, police said they will begin "a robust speed enforcement campaign" beginning July 22 and running through Sept. 5, 2024.

According to police, the campaign aims to enforce existing speed limits rigorously and educate drivers about the importance of adhering to these limits.

In 2022, the last year of verifiable data, Connecticut recorded 115 fatalities due to speeding and reckless driving, according to police.

Speeding accounts for roughly one-third of all traffic-related fatalities nationally, police said.
