Police have shared some helpful tips for drivers to keep in mind as they navigate through work zones and detours in downtown Naugatuck.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Police have shared some helpful tips for drivers to keep in mind as they navigate through work zones and detours in downtown Naugatuck.
In a Facebook post, police said the department is excited about the revitalization and infrastructure upgrades taking place in the downtown area.

According to police, the construction work is scheduled to continue for the foreseeable future.
"We understand motorists frustration trying to navigate the downtown area through work zones and detours," police said on Facebook. "These construction projects need to happen simultaneously as infrastructure gets rebuilt from below ground to above ground."

Police also shared the following helpful reminders for drivers traveling through downtown Naugatuck:
- Seek and familiarize [yourself with] alternative routes.
- Utilize smart device live traffic applications (GPS, Waze, etc). Police are working to ensure live GPS programs reflect closings in real time for efficient navigation.
- Construction can change on an daily basis; routes and detours will change accordingly.
- If a road is closed but an opposite lane appears open, it is for construction equipment to enter and exit.
- Police officers will be posted to assist motorists around the work zones and detours.
