Two men suspected of committing an armed robbery in Naugatuck Tuesday night are in custody after police tracked the suspects with the help of a K9 and officers from neighboring departments.

According to Naugatuck Police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Mobile Gas Station located at 469 Rubber Ave. at about 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 17. Witnesses reported that two men fled in a red pickup south towards Cherry Street.

Police located that pickup on Rubber Avenue near Cherry Street, and as they attempted to stop the vehicle it fled and struck a snow bank on Cherry Street Extension, Cammarata said. The two suspects attempted to flee.

One man was apprehended at the vehicle while officers pursued the other suspect on foot. A police K9 tracked him to the western bank of the Naugatuck River, where he was located and taken into custody.

Cammarata said the investigation remains active and the names of the suspects are not yet being released.

Naugatuck Police were assisted by officers from other agencies, including Connecticut State Police, Beacon Falls and Middlebury Police.
