NAUGATUCK, CT — Police are warning Naugatuck residents to beware of a recent handyman scam reported in Connecticut.

In a Facebook post Thursday, police said law enforcement agencies have received numerous complaints across the state about fraudulent garage door repair businesses.

According to police, the scam involves web searches that lead victims to legitimate looking websites.

After contacting the provided number, a technician arrives to "assess" the work and accepts initial funding, however the work is not completed or done improperly and the technician does not return, police said.

"Use caution when hiring for repair work!" police said on Facebook.
