New Britain Teen Crashes Stolen Mercedes In Waterbury: Police

The driver was arrested after the vehicle collided with a fence, according to police.

WATERBURY, CT — An 18-year-old New Britain resident is accused of stealing a Mercedes and then crashing it into a fence, according to police.

Sgt. Joseph Morais said officers on patrol Sunday saw that a 2010 Mercedes E 350 had struck a small fence on property of 78 Wall St.

Officers determined the Mercedes had been stolen, and arrested the driver, Jaylanie Ortiz, 18, of New Britain.

Ortiz was taken to an area hospital for treatment of a minor injury, according to police.

Police charged Ortiz with theft of a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, evading responsibility, third-degree criminal mischief, traveling too fast for conditions, and failure to obey a stop sign.
