Obituary: Dolores (Recio) Ruela, 92, of Naugatuck

She was a longtime Naugatuck resident, retired from General Data Com after many years of service and had also worked as a social worker.

Naugatuck-Dolores (Recio) Ruela, age 92, wife of the late Manuel Ruela, passed away Thursday January 30, 2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Born in Bristol, RI, she was the daughter of the late Israel and Mary (Moniz) Recio. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident, retired from General Data Com after many years of service and had also worked as a social worker for the State of Connecticut. Dolores was active in the community and extremely proud of her Portuguese heritage. She had been past president of both the Naugatuck Women’s Club and the Naugatuck Portuguese Club Ladie’s Auxiliary. She was a member of the Naugatuck Historical Society, Red Hat Society, Oxford Senior Center, and a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Dolores leaves her family to honor her memory, her grandson Daniel Woermer of Naugatuck; her son in law James Woermer of Naugatuck; her three great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends. She was predeceased by her daughters Dolores Woermer and Diane Lynn Teixeira, her siblings Israel Recio and Olga Recio, and her grandson Stephen Woermer.

Visitation will be held on Monday February 10, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
