3 Naugatuck Schools Receive Threats In ‘Swatting’ Incidents: Police

Police are investigating a series of "swatting incidents" at Naugatuck schools on Friday, according to officials.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Police are investigating a series of “swatting incidents” at Naugatuck schools on Friday, officials said in an update.

Police were notified around 8:50 a.m. on Sept. 13 that Naugatuck High School received a phone call stating that an armed person was going to show up at the school.

“Police and additional resources immediately responded to the area of the school and began investigating the threat,” police wrote in a news release. “Precautionary actions to ensure the safety and security of the school were also taken. At this time, the threat was found to not be credible and of ‘swatting’ nature.”

Then, police said that around 11:15 a.m., City Hill Middle School received a similar threat regarding an armed person enroute to the school.

Shortly after officers arrived at CHMS, police said a third threat was received at Western Elementary School.

“Police immediately responded, began investigating the threats, and ensured the safety of students and staff at CHMS and WES,” police wrote. “Both threats were found to not be credible and of ‘swatting’ nature. There is no threat to the community.

“Police also responded to the other schools in town to ensure the safety and security of the school. Continued safety of students and staff remains a priority and police presence will be seen across the school district.

“We commend the actions of students and staff at the schools for following protocol and the quick response by our officers.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation to determine the origin of the swatting calls. The FBI New Haven Division is aware of the threats and is offering assistance in the investigation.”
