What was the Days Inn on Foxon Road has been converted as the city's 8th shelter and can house up to 110 people in 55 rooms, officials say.
NEW HAVEN, CT — The city opened its newest, largest and first non-congregant shelter to serve people experiencing homelessness.
It was noted by city officials and advocates for the unhoused that the emergency housing center, "will help meet both the immediate needs of our residents with a warm and safe place to stay, meals and other basic needs, while also helping them get back on their feet with supports and services that help connect them to more permanent housing, employment and job training opportunities, and healthcare and mental health services."
Mayor Justin Elicker, and city and state officials and social service providers met at the former Days Inn, located at 270 Foxon Blvd. Thursday. The converted hotel has the capacity to house up to 110 individuals across 55 private rooms. Continuum of Care will operate the shelter.
