NEW HAVEN, CT — A 20-year-old New Haven man faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted following his arrest by New Haven police in connection with a fatal, 2023 hit-and-run, according to spokesperson officer Christian Bruckhart.

On June 7, 2023, at 8:30 p.m., cops were called to the intersection of Haven and Clay streets for a report of a car striking a motorcycle, he said. The car involved in the crash was described as a green colored Honda Accord that fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the motorcyclist lying in the roadway, Bruckhart said.

The victim, a 42-year-old New Haven man, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

After a lengthy investigation, New Haven police officer Agosto was able to identify the Honda driver as Dajon Marques Morris, Bruckhart said. An arrest warrant for Morris was granted, and he was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with evading responsibility resulting in death, and numerous related traffic violations. court records show.

Morris’ bond was set by the court at $75,000, Bruckhart said.

If convicted, state law calls for a prison sentence from two to 20 years and a fine of up to $20,000, or both.
