A New Haven man competed on Jeopardy on Wednesday night and wound up knocking off the defending champ; he won by $1.

NEW HAVEN, CT - A New Haven man was the winning contestant on Jeopardy on Wednesday night - beating the defending champion in final Jeopardy by $1.
Burt Westermeier, a Ph.D candidate from New Haven, Connecticut, finished with $14,401 after answering the final Jeopardy question correctly.
The Final Jeopardy question was: “The Yalu River Bridge was renamed the Friendship Bridge between these two nations - one is the other’s best friend.”

Westermeier correctly answered: “North Korea and China.”
Westermeier had $13,200 going into Final Jeopardy and bet just enough to defeat the defending champion by a single dollar, who also answered the question correctly.

Westermeier told Jeopardy host Alex Trebek during the interview portion of the show that he was a trumpet player, who had played the instrument for 14 years - starting at elementary school and finishing playing in the marching band at college at the University of North Carolina.
