New Haven Police Sgt. Faces Domestic Violence Charges: State Police

NEW HAVEN, CT —Tuesday, state police detectives arrested a 50-year-old New Haven police sergeant on domestic violence charges.
Louis DeCrescenzo, who turned himself into at Troop E in Montville on an active warrant, was charged with two counts of second-degree threatening “under family violence,” and two counts of second-degree breach of peace, according to New Haven police and a Connecticut State Police report.
A sworn member of the New Haven Police Department since 2009, DeCrescenzo is alleged in charging documents of using abusive language and menacing a woman by displaying a firearm during an argument, the charging documents show. He's alleged to have threatened, “You don’t know what I’m gonna do to you.”

In the charging information, the woman described DeCrescenzo as "verbally and emotionally abusive, obsessive and controlling." She told investigators, the warrant reads, that the more he drank, the more fearful she became that he might "snap" and kill her.
According to police spokesperson Sgt. Cherelle Carr, DeCrescenzo has been on paid administrative since May 24 when the woman filed a complaint against him with the New Haven Police Department Internal Affairs Division. Carr said their investigation “remains open and no further information on the complaint will be given until the investigation is complete.”

But, Connecticut State Police provided the redacted arrest warrant as part of a press release.
