New Haven Rotary Honors Students of the Month

The winners are Michael Comesanas, Jewel Kubala, Dominic Manna and Sharon Phimmuvong.

The East Haven Rotary Club recognized four East Haven High School Juniors as its most recent recipients of the club's Student of the Month program. The winners for the first four months of 2016 are (left to right) Sharon Phimmuvong, Jewel Kubala, Michael Comesanas and Dominic Manna, pictured with Rotary Student of the Month Chairman Robert Parente.

Phimmuvong (April) is a member of State of the Arts and would like to become an illustrator or medical technologist. Kubala (Jan.) desires to attend medical school and is interested in entering psychology.

Comesanas (March) is in the Math League and the Ace Mentorship Program. He plays soccer, lacrosse and track. Manna (Feb.) is the president of his class and plays football and indoor and outdoor track.

Each month, the Rotary recognizes a student from East Haven High School’s junior class. The student is invited to attend a Thursday-night dinner meeting at the Twin Pines Diner Restaurant and is presented with a certificate and a check for $ 100. Winners then become eligible for a $ 1,000 scholarship, to be awarded at the end of their senior year. The club, now in its 78th year, was organized on March 3, 1939.
