Obituary: Paul V. Duenkel, 85, longtime Clinton resident

Paul worked at the New Haven Register for over 25 years, serving as pressman, and he wrote a weekly Outdoor Sports column.

Monday, January 22, 2024, Paul V. Duenkel, 85, longtime resident of Clinton passed away at Gladeview Nursing Center in Old Saybrook. Mr. Duenkel was born in New Haven on April 4, 1938, son of the late Albert and Bernice (Pniewski) Duenkel.

Paul is survived by his daughters Patti Fucci of Clinton and Amy (Jim) Bransfield of Old Saybrook, his grandchildren Michael and Vincent Fucci, Jack and Quinn Bransfield, Malyssa Duenkel, and a great granddaughter, Lyla Milliken-Almli. Paul was predeceased by his son, Paul Duenkel, Jr.

Paul was one of six children and is survived by his sister Judi Becker and brother Conrad Duenkel. He is predeceased by brothers Albert Duenkel, Edmund Duenkel and George Duenkel.

Paul worked at the New Haven Register for over 25 years serving as pressman and wrote a weekly Outdoor Sports column. He was featured in an interview with WTNH’s Skip Church discussing his knowledge and enthusiasm for fishing and the outdoors. After retiring from the Register, Paul opened his own painting company – Paul’s Painting. Paul was also an accomplished artist who showed his work at the Acton Public Library in Old Saybrook.

Paul’s passion in life was fishing and the outdoors. At a young age he would be sent out by his mother to catch fish for their dinner. Paul was a great storyteller and had an endless supply to share. He held a special place in his heart for his dog, Penny. Paul loved his family and will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation, 54 Grove St, Clinton on Tuesday, January 30 at 11 am. Followed with Burial services at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beach Park Rd, Clinton.
