Obituary: Peter A. Vitagliano, 61, of New Haven
A 22-year Metro-North worker who retired as conductor, he loved playing jazz on his Fender bass, reading, good food and drink with friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter A. Vitagliano beloved, son, brother and uncle who departed this world March 4, 2024. He was born on December 7, 1961 to Gennaro “Jerry” Vitagliano and Palmina (Manna) Vitagliano in New Haven.
He graduated from High School in the Community. In his senior year, Pete was awarded New Haven Register Youth of the Year for his achievements in project-based learning and teamwork. While attending the University of New Haven, he worked in the family business. He worked for Metro-North Railroad for 22 years, retiring as a conductor.

Pete loved to read, he loved music and tried all his days to play his Fender Jazz bass in the manner of Jaco Pastorius. Pete loved good food and drink and the company of his friends at the bar. He approached every challenge in his own unique way. His charismatic nature resonates with all that knew him and despite his penchant for breaking the rules he was beloved for his humour, generosity, and occasional acts of kindness.
He is predeceased by his father Gennaro, and brother Gerald. He is survived by his mother Palmina, sisters Barbara and Susan, sister-in-law Susan, brother Gary, nieces Sara Jay and Abigail, nephews Christopher, Edward and Michael, cousins, and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette’s Church is Monday March 11th at 12pm 385 Townsend Ave, New Haven, CT 06512 and burial immediately afterwards at St. Lawrence Cemetery 280 Derby Ave, West Haven, CT 06516
