UPDATE: State Police Charge 2 Off-Duty New Haven Cops With DUI
911 callers saw a car swerving across I-95. When troopers stopped Alexander Carr, 31, he resisted arrest, was "taken to the ground:" Report.
NEW HAVEN, CT — Two New Haven cops were charged with DUI by state cops from Troop G, according to police.
New Haven Police Department Chief Karl Jacobson initiated an internal affairs probe and put both men on paid administrative leave, Sgt. Cherelle Carr said.
Officer Alexander Carr, 31, has been on the job since January 2016, and Kenneth Cobb, 33, has been a New Haven cop since November 2014. Both were charged by Connecticut State Police with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Carr was also charged with interfering with an officer, police said.

The arrests were separate incidents; one made Saturday night, one made in the overnight hours Sunday, police said.
"Jacobson deems the arrests as serious," department spokesperson Sgt. Carr said, adding the police chief is "committed to transparency and accountability."

According to the CSP reports, Saturday night just before 10 p.m., Carr was pulled over on I-95 South in Bridgeport after police received "multiple 911 calls about a 2017 Nissan Rogue that was swerving in all lanes of travel near exit 29." Carr was stopped by state police near exit 29 and, the report reads, he failed a field sobriety test. As troopers were trying to arrest him, Carr resisted, the report reads, and troopers took him "to the ground" and into custody. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital for "minor injuries," the report reads. He was released on a $5,000 surety bond.
According to the state police report, Cobb was stopped on MLK Blvd. in New Haven at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday after police said he ran a red light at the intersection of South Orange and South Frontage Road. The report reads that Cobb was "slurring his speech, and there was an odor of alcohol emanating from him." He was taken into custody, charged with DUI and later released on $500 bond.
