Teen, 16, Fatally Shot Monday, ID Released: New Haven Police
The identity of the teen who was fatally shot has been released by police.

NEW HAVEN, CT —Just after 7:30 p.m., gunfire erupted in the 200 block of Newhall Street, police said.
Alerted via ShotSpotter, followed by 911 calls about a person shot at the intersection of Newhall Street and Basset streets, cops arrived and found a "young male victim," New Haven police spokesperson Sgt. Cherelle Carr said.
Treated at the scene and then taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, the gunshot victim died as a result of his injuries, Carr said. Police identified the shooting victim as Maleak Sweets, 16.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Bureau of Identification responded, gathered evidence interviewed witnesses, and began a search for surveillance footage, she said.
