10-Acre New Milford Brush Fire Fought By Litchfield, Fairfield County Fire Crews

Fairfield-Litchfield County fire crews, with 12 Department of Environmental Protection firefighters are battling the weekend-long blaze.

NEW MILFORD, CT — New Milford's Water Witch Hose Co. #2 of New Milford was hard at work this weekend at the Lovers Leap State Park where a brush fire was reported around 11 p.m., they said in a statement.

"First due crews were met by a rapidly spreading brush fire which had already consumed 2 acres due to the extreme dry conditions. An aggressive attack was made into the remote and steep terrain accompanied by man power from Northville and Gaylordsville Fire Departments. Facing limited access and total darkness, mutual aid was called in from all over Litchfield and Fairfield counties. The fire was fought through the night while crews awaited the support of DEEP crews," the fire company said.

Lovers Leap State Park remains closed Sunday as numerous fire departments continue to battle the now 10-acre blaze that began Friday night, the News Times reported.
