NEW MILFORD, CT — After over a half-century in the community, The Windmill Diner in New Milford has served its last short stack with hash browns.
The Rountos family, who owns the diner at 245 Danbury Road, made the announcement Wednesday on a New Milford issues Facebook group.
The "restaurant will be closing effective immediately," the owners posted. A call confirmed the phone number was already out of service.

The Windmill first opened its doors in 1967 at the adjacent property. Stavros Rountos and his son Angelo moved the icon next door three years later. The elder Rountos retired in 1987, but the family has kept the grill fires burning continuously ever since.
"We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the community for your support over the last 50 plus years. It has been a pleasure to serve you and be a part of this community and we hope that you will look back fondly on the memories we have made together," the owners posted on Facebook.
