Fundraiser Started For New Milford Special Olympics Athlete

NEW MILFORD, CT — Dave Chabre is a 29-year-old man with cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder, yet he won a silver medal in the 100-meter run at the Special Olympics in 2019. Now, the community is contributing to help him live his dream and compete once again.

Due to the pandemic, Dave has spent much of the past two years indoors and was unable to take part in his normal activities, which resulted in a loss of muscle mass, causing difficulty for him to stand and walk. However, his mom Cheri hopes to purchase the Hoyt Running Chair to enable Dave to run again.

Cheri launched a GoFundMe and wrote, "He was over the moon after this race, little did we know, it'd be his last for a while ... Dave hasn't run since June 2019, and we need your help in order for him to run again!" Her dream is to run the Hartford Half Marathon and the Special Olympics torch run with Dave by her side.

Supporters have contributed over $3,000 to help Dave and Cheri.
