New Milford Distracted Drivers: Police Crackdown Starts Wednesday

Whether it's Pokemon GO, texting or talking on your cell phone, New Milford police are watching, and cracking down on distracted drivers.

NEW MILFORD, CT — During the month of August, the New Milford Police Department, along with police departments from across the state, are participating in the “U DRIVE. U TEXT. U PAY.” initiative in an effort to crackdown on motorists who choose to text, talk or otherwise distract themselves from driving by using a hand-held mobile phone.

The New Milford Police Department will have extra patrols on certain days specifically looking for cell phone and texting violations. Under Connecticut’s cell phone and texting law fines range from $150 for a first offense, $300 for a second offense and $500 for each subsequent offense.

The New Milford Police Department, through the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office, received funds to pay for this enforcement initiative.
