New Milford Police Department Participates In Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run

Patch and T-Mobile are spotlighting local first responders who are making a difference or have made a difference in their communities.

NEW MILFORD, CT — The New Milford Police Department recently participated in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics Connecticut.

Patch and T-Mobile are spotlighting local EMTs, firefighters and police officers who are making a difference or have made a difference in their communities.

According to Special Olympics Connecticut, the Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness vehicle and grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics.

The three-day run takes place every June leading up to the Special Olympics Summer Games. Law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the Flame of Hope into the opening ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional, and World Games.

"For athletes and officers alike, the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is a story of success, love, respect, and commitment between law enforcement officers and Special Olympic athletes," Special Olympics Connecticut says on its website.

The New Milford portion of the torch run took place on the morning of June 6 when runners took the torch to the Brookfield town line.

New Milford Mayor Pete Bass thanked those who participated.

"Thank you to Chief Cerruto, the Men and Women of the NMPD and CT State Police, and our Special Olympic Torch Run Runners for today's Torch Run for the Special Olympics!" Bass said in a Facebook post. "New Milford Proud & Strong!"
