New Milford Schools Delay Start Of School Year: Report

The school district will start the year late due to a fire that damaged the high school.

NEW MILFORD, CT — The school district has delayed the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, according to WTNH News-8. The original date was Aug. 25, but has now been moved to Sept. 6.

The delay is due to ongoing repairs following a fire that broke out at New Milford High School, according to WTNH News-8.

The fire marshal is still investigating the blaze, which began on the roof where contractors were doing work using a blow torch to melt adhesive, according to NBC CT.

Six firefighters were injured and 60 people evacuated the building in the fire July 5. The building's roof suffered the majority of the damage. No staff or students were injured in the blaze.
