New Milford Student At Newington School Earns Major Scholarship

The senior at the private Emmanual Christian Academy in Newington earned a National Merit Scholarship Wednesday.

NEW MILFORD/NEWINGTON, CT — A New Milford resident attending a private high school in Newington received a major national scholarship Wednesday

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced Wednesday more than 2,900 winners of National Merit Scholarships, which are financed by U.S. colleges and universities.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

Among the winners locally was New Milford resident Noah D. Coolbeth who will graduate this month from the Emmanuel Christian Academy in Newington.

He plans to study software engineering at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., and he earned that school's National Merit Scholarship.

An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2024 competition to more than 3,600.
