Obituary: Donald Sidney Hallas, 56, of New Milford

Don was known for his sense of humor, and love of life. Because of his gregarious nature, people always left happier than when they came.

NEW MILFORD, CT —Donald Sidney Hallas, age 56 of New Milford, passed away on January 3, 2019 after a long battle with cancer.

Don was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on November 13, 1962 and at the age of five along with his family moved to Danbury where he attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1981. After earning a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Sales from St. Mary University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Don utilized his charismatic personality in a prolific thirty year career in car sales at the former DeFranco Ford and Subaru and Robert Buick and with Colonial Subaru.

Don was known for his sense of humor, and love of life. Because of his gregarious nature, people always left happier than when they came to him. He was an adventurous man. His hobbies included hockey, golf, sailing and skiing with family and friends. He sailed along the Atlantic coastline, and went on numerous ski trips in New England and Colorado. Don's most recent trip was to Newfoundland to meet up with longtime friends in Canada. Don also took great pride and enjoyment in attending his sons football games from sixth grade through high school.

He is survived by his wife of twenty five years, Laurie Amick Hallas; his three children, Trevor, Justin and Amanda Hallas all of New Milford; his parents, Frederick and Marie Hallas of Danbury; his siblings. Deborah (William) McLachlan of New Milford, F. Gordon (Kerilynn) Hallas of Brookfield and Greg (Karen) Hallas of Suwanee, GA; in-laws, James and Elaine Amick of Bethel; brother in law, Christopher (Lori) Amick of Bethel; three aunts, three uncles and thirteen nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 11 a.m. in St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic Church, 138 Candlewood Lake Rd., Brookfield with the Rev. Shawn W. Cutler, officiating.Interment will be private and at the direction of the family.Relatives and friends will be received at the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hallas Children's Educational Fund, P.O. Box 459, Ridgefield, CT 06877.
