How did you come up with the name?

My goal is to help my patients heal physically, liberate them mentally, to teach them how to lead healthier lifestyles - all of which will allow them to do the things they love to do from running to kickboxing to being able to relax and take in the beauty around them and of course, to “Live Well” in the process.

Why choose that location? Why start a business in this town?

I am located in an older building that is bright, full of life and character. It’s a perfect place to relax, reflect and refresh. I would say Newtown chose me rather than the other way around. I started teaching martial arts in Newtown while working as a wellness consultant in Danbury. The small town feel of Newtown made me feel so welcomed and appreciated that I couldn’t have imagined living or starting a practice anywhere else.

Briefly, what business are you in?

Wellness Consultant practicing functional medicine.

What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?

I am very empathetic and with patients that are struggling, I tend to carry their pain and struggle with me.

Were there any challenges that made you second guess your decision to be an entrepreneur?

Absolutely. It’s difficult being able to financially support yourself and your practice when the economy is doing so poorly and patients can’t afford the care they need. You want to help them out but then you struggle to pay rent. Healthcare is a difficult field to be in.

What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?

I have had many grand moments. When I am a part of a patient achieving something they never thought they would be able to do is an amazing feeling. It keeps me going!

What’s the most innovative idea your employees or customers have had that you put into practice?

Patients love to communicate through email, text, social media and to schedule online. It’s become the preferred way of communication.

How do you deal with difficult customers?
I do. There are some people that don’t want to get better and it can be very challenging to motivate them to care for themselves.

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?

I am very involved with Dylan’s Wings of Change, a foundation that supports and improves the lives of children with autism created in honor of Dylan Hockley, a victim of the Sandy Hook tragedy. My business supports that foundation whenever possible.
