Candidates Emerge in Newtown First Selectman Race: Report

Hoping to be the next to replace Patricia Llodra, candidates are lining up for a shot at the town's highest office.

NEWTOWN, CT — The race for the town's highest office is starting to take shape, reports the News Times. Three Republicans and one Democrat have announced plans to run for the First Selectman's seat, according to the report.

They will be running to replace Pat Llodra, who announced her retirement at the end of her fourth term in November last week. Republicans Andrew Clure, Mary Ann Jacob and Will Rodgers announced plans to seek their party's nomination; and Dan Rosenthal has announced intentions to seek the Democratic nomination.

Llodra led the town through the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting of 2012, and oversaw the construction of the new $50 million Sandy Hook school during her tenure.

Speaking with the News Times, Llodra said she has been thinking about retiring for six months, and retirement will allow her to catch up on writing, traveling and spending time with her family.
