Convicted Felon Stole Car From Newtown Home: Police

The man is currently serving a five-year sentence for an unrelated robbery.

NEWTOWN, CT — A man serving a five year sentence for an unrelated robbery was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing a car from a home in Newtown. Police say Samuel Lopez, 19, and an unidentified accomplice were tied to the theft of a 2013 Hyundai Elantra from a Swamp Road home in January of 2013.

Police say they found the car abandoned in Waterbury shortly after the theft. Police say they identified Lopez as a suspect through DNA evidence.

Lopez is being held at Danbury Superior Court pending arraignment on a charge of larceny in the second degree. He is currently serving a five-year sentence for an unrelated robbery.
