Gold Ball Atop Flagpole Missing, Man Violates Probation
The following arrest information was supplied by the Newtown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
The flagpole located at Main St. and Church Hill Rd. in Newtown was struck by a large truck on Oct. 16 at approximately 2:25 p.m. The impact was strong enough to cause the ball at the top of the flagpole to take flight toward the area of Church Hill Rd.
Officers were unsuccessful in locating the ball. Anyone who has seen the large gold colored ball, which is 16” in diameter, is encouraged to contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-270-4255.

Eric Shields, 39, of Bethel, was charged with violation of probation on two arrest warrants from Newtown and Meriden on Oct. 18 at approximately 5:15 a.m.

According to police, Shields was on probation for DUI charges from Newtown and sale of hallucinogens/narcotics in Meriden. Part of the conditions of his probation included not operating a motor vehicle, which Shields’ probation officer allegedly observed him doing.
Shields was held on $500 bond and transported to Danbury Superior Court.

Crystal Cunningham, 23, of Newtown, was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and traveling to fast on Oct. 20 at approximately 6:26 p.m.
According to police, Cunningham was charged after a routine traffic stop on Philo Curtis Rd.
Cunningham was released on a written promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Nov. 7.
