At least fifteen Newtown teens will be heading to Oklahoma to help with cleanup from the devastating tornadoes that struck Moore and the Oklahoma City area in May.
They're headed across the country courtesy of Ben's Lighthouse, the organization established in memory of Ben Wheeler and other Sandy Hook Elementary School children. Ben's Lighthouse is raising money to send up to 40 Newtown teens to Oklahoma to help the Moore community rebuild.
"We have 20 more on the waiting list and we’re trying to raise as much as we can as quickly as we can," said Rick Haylon of Ben's Lighthouse.
The trip will give Newtown teens an opportunity to experience "the healing power that comes from helping others," according to the fundraising page.
Ben's Lighthouse is taking any amount of money you're willing to contribute, from $1 all the way up to, if you're feeling generous, $20,000. (If you contribute $20,000, according to the page: "let's face it: You're not looking for a tshirt...you're just looking to help. We love you. You're welcome in Newtown any time. We'll have a nice dinner.")
