Items Snatched From Purse at Grocery Store

Newtown Police arrest a local man and remind residents to protect their personal belongings while shopping.

The theft of items from a woman's purse in a shopping cart at Caraluzzi's has prompted police to remind residents to never leave their valuables unattended.

Newtown Police arrested a local man in connection with the alleged theft, on April 16, after receiving a report of suspicious activity at the 6 Queen St. business.

The man, David Cunningham, 29, of Sugar Street, was arrested on a charge of sixth-degree larceny and credit card theft. Police said he stole items from a pocket book of an unsuspecting shopper at Caraluzzi’s.

Cunningham was released on a $500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court April 24.
