Massachusetts Men Charged In Newtown Probe As Traffic Incidents Prompt Citations

Newtown police charged two men from Massachusetts and responded to multiple vehicle crashes, injuries, and citations.

NEWTOWN, CT — Two Massachusetts residents face charges in connection with a theft and forgery investigation in Newtown, while separate vehicle crashes throughout town led to citations and minor injuries, according to police.

Two Massachusetts men are facing charges after police said a counterfeit $100 bill was used at two gas stations in town.

Officers were called to the Newtown Mobil station on Church Hill Road around 3:35 p.m. on July 28 for a report that individuals had attempted to purchase merchandise using fake currency. Before police arrived, the suspects reportedly left the scene in a white Honda sedan with Massachusetts plates.

The vehicle was found across the street at the Wheels gas station, where its occupants were detained. Police said an investigation revealed that Dawilfry Miguel Quezada, 22, of Lawrence, used a counterfeit $100 bill to buy merchandise at the Wheels store and had also tried to use similar currency moments earlier at the Mobil station.

Quezada was charged with sixth-degree larceny and first-degree forgery. He was released after posting a $70 bond and is due in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 12.

Another occupant of the vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Jean Michael Warner-Delgado, also of Lawrence, was issued a misdemeanor summons for interfering with a police investigation after police said he gave false identifying information. He was released on a promise to appear in court on the same date.

Deer Collision on Currituck Road in Newtown Leaves Vehicle Damaged, No Injuries Reported

A 2023 Volkswagen Jetta sustained minor damage after striking a deer on Currituck Road near Tunnel Road on July 28, according to a Newtown Police Department accident summary.

The vehicle, operated by Evan Henry Bennett, 27, of Brookfield, was traveling northwest around 3:30 p.m. when a deer entered the roadway from the wooded shoulder and collided with the front left door. The impact caused a large dent, but the vehicle remained drivable and was not towed.

Bennett reported no injuries, and EMS was not requested. The deer was found deceased at the scene.

Police determined the crash was unavoidable and that Bennett had not committed any traffic violations. No enforcement action was taken.

Two Drivers Cited After Minor Crash at Queen Street and Church Hill Road in Newtown

Two drivers were issued written warnings following a minor two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Queen Street and Church Hill Road on the evening of July 29, according to the Newtown Police Department.

The incident occurred around 5:19 p.m. when a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Gregory Robert Peters of Sandy Hook, was stopped at the parking lot exit of 6 Queen St. and attempted to turn onto Queen Street. Police said the truck failed to yield to a 2018 Audi Q7 traveling northbound on Queen Street, causing the front right bumper of the Silverado to strike the left side of the Audi.

Both vehicles sustained minor to functional damage but remained operable. No injuries were reported.

Peters was issued a written warning for making an improper turn. The driver of the Audi was issued a written warning for failure to renew vehicle registration.

Infraction Issued After Two-Vehicle Crash Disrupts Traffic Near South Main Street and Mile Hill Road

A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road in Newtown on July 29 led to minor vehicle and property damage, with one driver receiving an infraction, according to police.

The incident occurred around 4:06 p.m. when a 2024 Tesla Model Y, operated by Katherine Anne Ramsey of Newtown, was traveling northbound on South Main Street and attempted a left turn onto Country Club Road. The Tesla collided with a southbound 2017 Jeep Cherokee Overland, driven by Amy Holt of Monroe, which had tried to swerve and avoid the crash.

The Jeep then veered off the road and struck a fire hydrant owned by Aquarian Water Company, causing disabling damage to the vehicle and minor damage to the hydrant. The Tesla was operable and did not require towing.

No injuries were reported among the drivers or a child passenger in the Tesla.

Following the investigation, Ramsey was issued an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection.

Parking Lot Collision at Newtown Market Involves Two Trucks

A minor two-vehicle collision occurred in the parking lot of Caraluzzi’s Market on Queen Street in Newtown on July 29, according to police.

The incident involved a 1999 Ford F-350 Super Duty driven by John F. Maher of Newtown and a 2025 GMC Sierra K1500 owned by Gary Jackman of Sandy Hook. Police said the Ford was pulling out of a parking space when it made contact with the rear quarter panel of the parked and unoccupied GMC.

The GMC sustained scratches above the wheel well, while Maher reported no damage to his vehicle. The incident took place on private property and did not result in any enforcement action, police said.

Jackman declined to pursue evading responsibility charges, and officers noted that Maher was unaware of the contact until informed by law enforcement.

Motorcyclist Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on Mt. Pleasant Road in Newtown

A motorcycle rider sustained minor injuries following a two-vehicle crash on Mt. Pleasant Road near Splendid Place in Newtown on July 29, according to local police.

The incident occurred around 2:19 p.m. when a 2020 GMC Terrain, operated by Sebastian C. Miraglia, 88, of Newtown, exited the driveway of 151 Mt. Pleasant Road and attempted a left turn into the roadway. The GMC struck a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle traveling eastbound, driven by Albert E. Moran, 61, of Derby.

Moran suffered minor injuries to his right arm and side and was treated at the scene by Newtown EMS. He declined further medical treatment.

Police cited Miraglia for failure to grant the right of way while making a left turn.

Two Vehicles Involved in Rear-End Crash on Poverty Hollow Road

A rear-end collision involving two northbound vehicles occurred July 30 on Poverty Hollow Road near Equestrian Ridge, according to the Newtown Police Department.

Police said a 2013 Honda Civic, driven by Ethan Correia of Farm Meadow Road, struck the back of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Andrew Thomas Litterer of Poverty Hollow Road. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and did not report any injuries.

An investigation determined that Correia had been following too closely. He received a verbal warning for failure to maintain a reasonable distance, while Litterer was also issued a verbal warning for operating an unregistered vehicle.

Driver Cited Following Two-Vehicle Collision at Wasserman Way and Oakview Road

A minor two-vehicle collision occurred on July 18 at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Oakview Road in Newtown, resulting in no injuries or towing, according to police.

The crash took place around 6:14 p.m. when a 2020 Lexus UX 250h, operated by Tara Lyn Bassett of Sandy Hook, was stopped at a stop sign on Oakview Road. As Bassett turned left onto Wasserman Way into the eastbound lane, the front right bumper of a westbound 2019 Audi SQ5, driven by Haley Grayson Perry of Newtown, struck the Lexus's rear driver-side bumper.

Following an investigation, police issued Bassett a verbal warning for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection.

Two Vehicles Collide in Parking Lot on Berkshire Road

A two-vehicle collision in a Berkshire Road parking lot on the morning of July 24 resulted in moderate vehicle damage but no reported injuries, according to the Newtown Police Department.

The crash occurred around 11:05 a.m. when a 2017 Volvo S60, driven by Sheilah B. O'Donnell of Newtown, was traveling eastbound through a parking slot and turned left in front of a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Kristy Lynn Lyon, also of Newtown, who was heading northbound in the lot.

The front right bumper of the Volvo struck the front left bumper of the Chevrolet. The Volvo sustained moderate damage, while the Chevrolet had minor damage. Both vehicles were insured and operable at the time of the crash, though the Volvo was towed.

No injuries were reported by any of the vehicle occupants, including two passengers in O'Donnell’s car.

Police said no enforcement action was taken, as the crash occurred on private property.

Minor Vehicle Damage Reported in Parking Lot Collision at Maplewood at Newtown

A low-speed collision in the parking lot of Maplewood at Newtown resulted in minor vehicle damage but no injuries, according to a report from the Newtown Police Department.

The incident occurred around 12:03 p.m. on July 26 when a 2016 GMC Sierra K2500 Denali, operated by John Edward Kracen of Bridgewater, was backing out of a marked parking stall and turning right. Police said the rear passenger-side tire of the GMC made contact with the front driver-side bumper of a 2008 Acura MDX Sport, which had been parked in the adjacent stall.

The Acura, owned by Suscal Services LLC of Danbury, sustained minor damage. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

Police noted the crash took place on private property and no enforcement action was taken.
