Multiple People Face Charges In Newtown And Nearby Towns Following Recent Police Incidents
Police reported charges in Newtown and nearby towns tied to vandalism, crashes, disputes, and traffic violations.
NEWTOWN, CT — Police said several people are facing charges in Newtown and nearby communities following separate incidents that included vandalism, motor vehicle crashes, disputes, and traffic violations over the past two weeks.
Newtown Man Charged After Vehicles Egged on Sugar Street
A Newtown man is facing charges after two vehicles were vandalized on Sugar Street on Aug. 31, according to the Newtown Police Department.

Officers received a report around 7:55 a.m. that two cars parked at a property had been egged. Following a brief investigation, police determined that Kent Allen Bonsignore, 60, had driven by in a 2010 red Ford Edge and thrown eggs at the vehicles.
Bonsignore was later contacted and turned himself in. He was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal mischief and released on a promise to appear.

He is scheduled to appear Sept. 9 in Danbury Superior Court.
Newtown Man Charged in Dispute on Appleblossom Lane
A Newtown man is facing charges following a reported dispute on Appleblossom Lane late last month, according to police.
Officers were called to 56 Appleblossom Lane around 10:34 p.m. on Aug. 23 for a report of an active dispute. Police said Kyle Robertson, 28, was taken into custody at the scene.
Following an investigation, Robertson was charged with violation of a standing criminal protective order and breach of peace in the second degree.
He was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear Aug. 25 in Danbury Superior Court.
New Haven Woman Charged After Traffic Stop in Sandy Hook
A New Haven woman is facing multiple charges after police stopped a vehicle with improper plates in Sandy Hook on Sept. 2.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on Berkshire Road near Toddy Hill Road around 11:34 p.m. and spoke with the driver, who initially provided a false name, according to police. The driver was later identified as Tameika Covington, 49, whose license was suspended.
Covington was charged with criminal impersonation, interfering with police, misuse of plates, operating without insurance, and operating with a suspended license.
She was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 17 in Danbury Superior Court.
Newtown Man Charged After Crash on Settlers Lane
A Newtown man is facing charges after police said he struck another vehicle and drove home while intoxicated on Aug. 30.
Officers responded to the area of Settlers Lane and Toddy Hill Road around 8:27 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Following an investigation, police determined that Ivan Reyes, 45, had been driving under the influence before leaving the scene and returning to his residence.
Reyes was charged with DUI and evading responsibility. In Connecticut, the legal blood alcohol content limit for driving is 0.08 percent for those 21 and older.
He was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 9 in Danbury Superior Court.
Sandy Hook Man Charged After Motorcycle Crash on Mt. Pleasant Road
A Sandy Hook man is facing charges after police said his motorcycle collided with a vehicle during a traffic stop at the scene of another crash on Sept. 4.
Around 5:32 p.m., northbound traffic on Mt. Pleasant Road was stopped when a Harley Davidson motorcycle ignored a firefighter directing traffic and attempted to pass a Ford Explorer Sport Trac, according to police. The right side of the motorcycle struck the rear driver’s side of the Ford before continuing north through the accident scene without stopping.
Police said the motorcycle’s operator, identified as David Kreshpan, 32, left behind a saddlebag containing identification and a shoe. He was later taken into custody and charged with operating under suspension, unsafe passing, and evading responsibility.
Kreshpan was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 18 in Danbury Superior Court.
Newtown Man Charged After Reported Assault on Old Green Road
A Newtown man is facing charges after police responded to a reported assault in progress at a Sandy Hook residence on Aug. 24.
Officers were called to Old Green Road around 7:36 p.m., where they separated those involved and provided medical attention at the scene, according to police.
Following an investigation, William Maxwell, 47, was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, and disorderly conduct.
Maxwell was released on a $500 bond after posting $35 in cash. He is scheduled to appear Aug. 25 in Danbury Superior Court.
Southbury Man Charged After Traffic Stop on Underhill Road
A Southbury man is facing multiple charges after police stopped a vehicle reported to be driving erratically in Sandy Hook on Aug. 30.
Newtown officers were called to Underhill Road around 4:29 p.m. for reports of unsafe driving and claims that the driver had offered to sell narcotics in the area, according to police. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
Police said the driver, identified as Kris Paul Green, 46, was taken into custody following an on-scene investigation. He was charged with operating under suspension, reckless driving, operating without insurance, violation of release conditions, and DUI, which police noted was his third offense.
Green was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 9 in Danbury Superior Court.
Shelton Man Charged After Three-Vehicle Crash in Newtown
A Shelton man is facing charges after police said he caused a three-vehicle collision on Mt. Pleasant Road in Newtown on Sept. 4.
Officers responded to the area of Mt. Pleasant Road and Pocono Road around 4:44 p.m. for reports of a crash. The investigation determined that a 2019 BMW sedan driven by William Gary Demenna, 42, rear-ended one vehicle, which then struck another, according to police.
Police said Demenna admitted to drinking prior to driving and stated he had consumed enough alcohol to cause the collision. He was charged with operating under the influence, traveling unreasonably fast, and following too closely.
Demenna was held on a $10,000 bond after being unable to post the required percentage. He was scheduled to appear Sept. 5 in Danbury Superior Court.
