Police: Newtown Business Caught Selling Synthetic Marijuana

The alleged discovery is the result of an undercover investigation by police and the state Narcotics Task Force.

 

A joint investigation involving the Statewide Narcotics Task Force and the Newtown Police Department was conducted over the past two weeks to identify any stores in Newtown selling the newly illegal Synthetic Marijuana.

During the investigation undercover officers went to all the stores in Newtown that had previously sold Synthetic Marijuana, commonly known as K-2, K-3 or Spice, and attempted to by the illegal substance. One store, Brand Cigars, 266 South Main St. in Newtown, was caught still selling Synthetic Marijuana.

Following the illegal sale, investigators went back to Brand Cigars to interview the employees and seize the remaining Synthetic Marijuana.

No arrests have been made, but a criminal investigation remains open, according to police. The investigation is also being forwarded to the Department of Consumer Protection and Revenue Services for any licensure violations.

Brand Cigars was opened in Plaza South in December 2011.
