How did you come up with the name?

I wanted a name that sounded relaxing and fun. I also have a collection of fat buddhas that started from my grandparents and grew as I travelled and picked one up here and there.
Why choose that location? Why start a business in this town?

I felt there was niche for a cigar shop that was open late and invited you to stay, socialize and have events. I’ve been in Newtown for a while and the closest lounge was over 30 minutes away.
Briefly, what business are you in?
Cigar retail shop and lounge.
What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?
Time management and delegating responsibility.
Were there any challenges that made you second guess your decision to be an entrepreneur?
Not to this point with this endeavor.
What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?
I’d say two: The night we opened and packed the place. Seeing friends there to support the idea and making new ones who shared the same interest. Also, we held a fundraiser for Reach Newtown that showcased seven local bands and many local businesses. It was a really fun day that raised money for a good cause.
What’s the most innovative idea your employees or customers have had that you put into practice?
The idea of an aging humidor where we take great cigars and put them away for a couple years. Cigars, like wine, change over time and you get different nuances when you try the same cigar after it has aged.
How do you deal with difficult customers?
Ha. The customer is always right!
How does your business give back or get involved in the community?
We have several events (poker tournaments, Buddha Bash, Pig Roast, and others) that raise money for local charities and foundations. We also donate cigar gift bags to many golf events and silent auctions that support schools, sports programs, charities, etc.
