Newtown Business Spotlight: Robert Anthony's Salon

Our small business series shines a light on local business owners in the community.

Every local business has a story worth sharing with the community. And that’s the belief behind this exciting series we’ve kicked off at Patch — to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about the ones we may not know that well.

Business: Robert Anthony’s Salon
Owners: Robert Anthony Skuba, Diane Skuba
Address: 49 Church Hill Road, Newtown

How did you come up with the name?
Family name.

Why choose that location? Why start a business in this town?
We are Newtown residents for over 35 years. This is our home town. We know alot of people from going to school here, even though a lot has changed and we have made a lot of new friends. Our salon is family owned and operated. We welcome the whole town to our salon.

Briefly, what business are you in?
Hair salon

What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?
Of course the economy.

Were there any challenges that made you second guess your decision to be an entrepreneur?
We have a strong family and very loyal clients and faith.

What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?
We have been open now for 14 years and we have the same wonderful clients who started with us. They have become our family.

What’s the most innovative idea your employees or customers have had that you put into practice?
Our employees have been a blessing and have been there for us through some family hardships. They wonderful and very supportive and leaders.

How do you deal with difficult customers?
Patience... but over all we have very nice people. We treat our clients the way we would want to be treated if we were sitting in the salon chair.

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?
We try to help out to people who we know can’t afford our price...we give them a discount. We do 50% off to all new people coming to town. We have not increased out prices unlike most salons, we want men, women and their children to come in and be able to afford their hair service.
